Inter-Orthodox Monastic Conference “Monastic life and tradition”
In May 2010, ten years after the repose of Mother Theosemni, an Inter-Orthodox Monastic Conference on “Monastic life and tradition” was held in honour of the late Abbess. The topics and themes of the conference were drawn from the wealth of Orthodox monastic theology, hagiology, and tradition. Topics of monastic arts and popular culture, as well as questions of environmental protection were also presented. A special reference was made to the sanctified person of Mother Theosemni.
Youth Assemblies and Meetings
Every year, in the period of Twelve Days of Christmas, a Youth Assembly is held at Chrysopigi’s monastic dependency of St Kyriaki. Hundreds of participants come from Chania as well as from other regions of Crete and Greece. The meeting starts with the Divine Liturgy at the Monastery and is followed by a talk, a discussion, and a common meal. Young people express their concerns, communicate with each other, and experience the value of life that communion in Christ offers. Afterwards they walk the footpaths of the monastic biotope, visit the Environmental Education Centre of the Monastery, venerate at the cave chapels of the area, take part in the activities such as tree planting, releasing of birds, etc.
